Getting rid of marketing calls

Anyone in India is prone to those automated daily marketing calls. I hated that someone could just call me anytime they wished to. Initially it was just one call a day at around 9AM but last 2 months it increased to 4-5 calls starting at 9 AM and as late as 8:30 PM. I created a contact for these numbers (there were 3 of them) and not take the call. One day I decided to just take the entire call, it lasted for about 4 mins, the automated message repeated for 5-6 times. I thought atleast the other side will incur some cost when they call me. Surprisingly the next day the calls came down to 3. I did the same 2 more times and calls stopped altogether. I do get an odd marketing sms but the calls completely stopped.


Here is what I guess happened. The caller phone makes a call and plays a audio file. Till the audio file is completely played or the callee presses a key or disconnects the caller phone has no way of disconnecting the call. Possibly a limitation of the mobile app. Anyway I am quite pleased with the outcome, I have my own "Do Not Call" registry.
